The trend in AC drives is uniquely directed to sensorless multipole motors. the four-pole motors have a double torque, a smoother running and a higher efficiency. Traxxas is holding this trend, and it is now introducing four-pole AC motors with new controllers that have been optimized for use with 4-pole motors.
The four-pole Velineon 550 has a rotor made of steel plates in which neodymium high-temperature magnets are sealed. For maximum strength, the rotor is wrapped with kevlar cloth embedded in a special resin. High-speed roller bearings are used.
Interlaced stator winding ensures smooth operation and high efficiency. The Stator is made of silicon-alloyed steel sheets. Of course there is perfect dynamic balancing of the rotor.
The new VXL-3S V2 controller has been optimized for the Velineon 550 four-pole motors. The waterproof construction, thermal, protection, switching BEC source, single-button single programming is the same as for other Traxxas controllers.
Unlike the previous version of the controller, this controller is equipped with a switched BEC power supply for the servo and receiver, which means less heating of the controller. The use of modern power MOS-FET transistors has resulted in less heat and high reliability of the controller.
Calibration of the controller
This is the setting of the neutral position and the extreme position of the gas. Calibration is required when replacing the transmitter or suspecting incorrect controller behavior.
Drive mode
- Sport mode : Full power forward and reverse, brake
- Race mode : full forward and braking, reverse is not available to meet the rules of some races.
- Training mode : 50% power forward controller, 50% reverse power, 100% brake. This mode is suitable for first getting familiar with the model's driving behavior or for children. The model reaches about a third of its maximum speed.
Battery type
- NiMH battery : The power of the controller is limited only by the power that can deliver the batteries. In this mode, LiPol batteries can not be recommended because they would be too low to destroy them.
- LiPol batteries : LiPol batteries are a modern power source that excels in massive mass-related capacity. With LiPol batteries, it is necessary to ensure that the voltage drops below 3.0V per cell. When the voltage drops to about 3.3V / cell, the controller reduces the controller's power to 50%. When the voltage drops to 3.0 V / cell, the motor will be completely disconnected.
