Old gliders used to say that a proper model starts with a span of two and a half meters or 100 inches... With the Cumul 100 you can easily see that they were absolutely right!
A powerful thermal glider is one of the most rewarding machines in a recreational modeler's hangar - nothing compares to peaceful relaxing flights in mild conditions, circling in thermals under clouds, quiet flying in the early evening calm, when you can sit back and watch your elegant model fly almost by itself... But the CUMUL 100 can do much more - thanks to the fully mechanized wing with ailerons and flaps, you can thoroughly mess around with its settings and fully use the capabilities of your computerized RC kit. Flight modes for increasing penetration when searching for thermals or for increasing lift when circling in a rising current, an amazingly effective butterfly brake for landing "on a dime" - these are just a few options for how to really enjoy flying with the Cumul 100. And if you have a competitive spirit in you, the CUMUL 100 complies with the rules of the international FAI F5J category or the national RCEP/RCEN/RCEV classes.
The CUMUL 100 model was designed and manufactured in the Czech Republic.
A high-performance thermal glider kit of a classic, very light all-balsa construction in bulk, which you can also easily modify for propulsion with a KAVAN C2836/AXI 2217 class AC electric motor. The CUMUL 100 is an ideal project for modelers who want to build a really powerful model for recreational and competitive flying. Thanks to the well-thought-out design with CNC-cut parts equipped with protrusions and notches that fit together like pieces of a puzzle, the construction is very quick and easy. With the Cumul 100 you will not get lost in F5J category competitions or in various "enduro" classes. The kit contains fuselage parts for both a pure glider and an electric plane. The construction is quite fast and there is not too much of it - the CUMUL 100 is still a relatively simple model, but it is not intended for beginners.
The front part of the fuselage consists of a laminate nacelle with a removable cover for perfect access to the rudder and elevator servos stored in a plywood bed, the receiver and, if necessary, the motor, controller and drive battery. For easy modification of the nacelle for the installation of an electric motor, the kit also includes a plywood jig for cutting off the tip of the fuselage. The tail part of the fuselage consists of a carbon tube beam with a glued-in pylon with a core of lightweight plywood clad with balsa for attaching the horizontal tail surface. The kit also includes an adjustable tow hook.
The three-piece wing with the AG 40-42 profile is a classic design with balsa ribs and a rigid torsion box cover. The main spar is made of spruce strips with a balsa web, which guarantees high frame strength at a very low weight. The ears with elegant winglets are connected to the center section with carbon connectors and duralumin locating pins. The flaps and ailerons are controlled independently by four servos using short wire rods. The wing is attached to the fuselage with two plastic screws.
The tail surfaces are made of panels, glued from CNC-cut balsa parts. For easy transport, the horizontal tail surface is removable; it is fastened with 2 plastic screws. The rudders are controlled by wire cables.
You can cover the model with iron-on foil - for example, transparent KAVAN foil or Oracover® for purely recreational flying; if you are building a competition machine, lighter Oralight® foil or similar materials are preferable.
To control the model, you will need at least a seven-channel RC kit. For recreational flying, a good 15-20 g microservo with metal gears and a thrust of at least 2.5 kg.cm will suffice; for sports and competitive flying, you should not hesitate to install strong and fast microservos, such as KAVAN GO-1023MG for ailerons and flaps and KAVAN GO-1020MG/GO-1021MG for rudder and elevator (the mounts supplied in the kit are "tailor-made" for these servos).
A two-cell LiPo 800-1000 mAh is ideal for powering the onboard electronics of a competition glider.
To power the electric version, you will need a 300-450 W AC electric motor with a diameter of 28 mm; our prototypes fly with KAVAN C2836-1120 and KAVAN PRO 2836-1050 motors with a 10x6" propeller with a 32 mm propeller cone and KAVAN R-40SB Plus or KAVAN PRO-40SB controllers powered by 3S LiPo batteries 11.1 V 750-850 mAh with a load capacity of at least 30C for recreational flying and 40C for competitive flying.
The kit includes: CNC-cut balsa and plywood parts, beams and balsa planks for hard skin, laminate fuselage nacelle, carbon tubular tail beam, accessory kit, sheet of self-adhesive decals, 1:1 scale construction plan and instructions.
