Billing Boats
In the early 1950s, Danish architect and former RAF pilot Ejnar Billing displayed a homemade model of a fishing boat in the window of his wife's hobby shop. After a photograph of the model appeared in a magazine, Mr. Billing was inundated with orders to build dozens of the same model. Unable to handle such a large number, he decided to offer the boat as a kit - the first mass-produced kit with a wooden frame with a keel, ribs and planked skin, imitating the construction of real ships as closely as possible. This method of construction quickly caught on and Mr. Billing's models began to conquer the world. In 1958, the family business was founded, which still bears the name Billing Boats today. Over the years, the design of the models has been improved and modernized, in the 1960s the use of plastic hull moldings was introduced, then CNC machines came along, and at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s Billing Boats began using laser cutting of parts. Today, the company is managed by the third generation of Billings, and floating RC models and non-floating tabletop models still represent the absolute top of ship modeling.
We are pleased to offer you the Billing Boats series of kits, from which you can build beautiful, detailed floating models with remote control or create a stylish addition to your apartment interior with the salty scent of the sea and the call of the distant...
HJEJLEN
The first voyage of the paddle steamer Hjejlen from Himmelbjerget, Denmark, to Silkeborg on June 24, 1861 was truly festive. His Majesty Frederik VII, King of Denmark, was on board. The Baumgarten & Burmeister shipyard really took care of her - the Hjejlen still carries passengers today and is still powered by the original steam engine! While the propulsion remained, the exterior of the ship underwent several changes - it originally carried a tall mast, which had to be removed later so that the Hjejlen could sail under the newly built railway bridge on the line to Silkeborg. For the same reason, a folding chimney was installed; later the wheelhouse was also rebuilt and instead of the canvas roof, a solid one appeared. The kit thus captures the ship as you can see it today - a Hjejlen that you can ride on.
The 1:33 scale kit is designed for experienced shipbuilders.
Hjejlen has a hull of classic wooden construction made of laser-cut plywood parts with plank skin, a plywood deck covered with planks, and a wooden superstructure. The kit contains all the plastic, brass and wooden parts needed to complete the model, model accessories (e.g. position lights, anchors, lifebuoys, etc.), wheel shaft with housing.
A 400 or 500 series DC motor with a slow gear ratio (approx. 1:60 to 1:90) will be suitable for driving the model, a 30 A bidirectional regulator, a 6-7 cell NiMH or 2-3S LiPo battery with a capacity of 3-5000 mAh.
In principle, even the most ordinary two-channel RC kit will suffice to control the basic functions; a standard servo will suffice for controlling the rudder. But for a true modeler, it is of course a "must" to add as many model functions as possible (lights, sound module, etc.), which will require the use of a multi-channel RC kit - and there are never enough channels.
