The new generation of KAVAN programmable microprocessor controllers for AC motors without sensors ("brushless, sensorless") designed using the possibilities of the most modern semiconductor technology with excellent useful properties while maintaining very simple and user-friendly operation. It is used to control the speed of AC electric motors in recreational and sports aircraft models when powered by LiPo/Li-ion/LiFe and NiCd/NiMH batteries. The regulator is equipped with a powerful switched power supply stabilizer BEC ensuring the power supply of the receiver and servos from the drive battery. The KAVAN PRO LED programming card is used for easy adjustment of the controller (it is also used for programming the KAVAN PRO series controllers), which is sold separately.
DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS OF THE REGULATOR
- The controller is equipped with a high-performance 32-bit ARM M4 microprocessor with a clock frequency of up to 96 MHz.
- DEO (Driving Efficiency Optimization) optimized control technology significantly improves throttle response and power stage control efficiency, reduces regulator temperature.
- Suitable for the vast majority of aircraft AC motors powered by 3-4S LiPo batteries.
- For power supply from NiCd, NiMH, LiPo, Li-ion, LiFe batteries
- Powerful switching power supply stabilizer BEC 5.0 V with a load capacity of up to 5 A.
- Adjustable timing for optimal adaptation to the given engine.
- Adjustable PCO circuit - disconnecting the motor when the supply voltage drops.
- The Normal/Soft/Very Soft start modes are suitable for both direct drive and geared motors.
- Safe start-up (prevents the engine from starting when switched on).
- A series of protection functions: start-up protection, controller thermal protection, capacitor thermal protection, overload protection, overcurrent protection, abnormal supply voltage protection, and control signal loss protection effectively extend the life of the controller.
- A special programming cable for connecting the controller to the KAVAN PRO LED programming card allows the user to program the controller anytime and anywhere.
- Throttle range calibration to perfectly match the control signal from your RC rig.
PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS
- Brake type: Brake off, normal brake (with braking intensity adjustable in 3 levels), reversal (allows you to turn on the reversal of motor operation using another channel with a switch, the reverse speed of the motor is controlled by the throttle controller), linear reversal (allows you to turn on the reversal of motor operation using another channel with a proportional controller, with which the reverse speed of the motor is controlled).
- Brake strength: The braking intensity is adjustable to 60, 90 or 100% for the "Normal brake" mode.
- Motor disconnection method: Soft shutdown: The regulator will gradually reduce power to 60% of full power within 3 seconds after voltage protection is activated. Hard shutdown: The engine is immediately shut down.
- Number of LiPo cells: We recommend setting manually for 100% reliable voltage protection function. The controller automatically calculates the number of cells of the connected accumulator according to the "3.7 V per cell" rule, if you choose automatic detection.
- Voltage protection: The threshold level of voltage protection is adjustable to 2.8 V/cell, 3.0 V/cell or 3.4 V/cell; protection can also be turned off completely.
- Acceleration: Determines the throttle response during jump acceleration from 0% to 100%. Normal/Soft/Very soft start corresponds to a rise time of approx. 200ms/500ms/800ms.
- Timing: Adjustable to 5, 15 or 25°.
- DEO freewheel: This function can be turned on or off; it can bring better linearity or smoother throttle response.
- Search mode: Can help when searching for a model that has landed in unclear terrain - the controller causes the engine to beep when the throttle is reduced to zero for a preset time.
PROTECTIVE FUNCTIONS OF THE REGULATOR
- Start-up protection: The regulator measures the engine speed during start-up. If the revolutions stop increasing or their increase is not stable, the controller evaluates this as an incorrect start. If at this moment the throttle is at less than 15%, the controller will automatically try to restart the engine again; if the throttle is at more than 20%, you must pull the throttle all the way down to restart the engine again.
- Thermal protection: If the temperature of the controller exceeds 120°C, the controller will limit the output power to 60% (if soft motor shutdown is set) or completely shut down the motor (if hard shutdown is set).
- Loss of Throttle Signal: The controller will shut down the engine immediately if the signal is missing for 0.25s. Once a normal signal is received, the controller will resume normal operation.
- Overload protection: The controller shuts down the motor or restarts automatically when its load suddenly increases to a very high value.
- Voltage protection: As soon as the voltage of the drive battery falls below the set threshold level, the voltage protection of the regulator starts. The controller will limit the output power to 60% (if soft motor shutdown is set) or completely shut down the motor (if hard shutdown is set).
- Abnormal supply voltage protection: If the driving battery voltage is not within the allowed range for the controller, the abnormal supply voltage protection will be triggered; the controller will signal a warning by beeping the engine.
Tip: When switching on the regulator for the very first time, first calibrate the gas range according to the instructions. Only then is it possible to use the controller and set other parameters with the help of the transmitter or the KAVAN LED PRO programming card.
