Ducati won the MotoGP and constructors' world championships in 2007 and 2022. Two consecutive constructors' world championships in 2020 and 2021. In addition, Ducati won several Superbike world championships. Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia remained drivers for 2022 as well. Both riders will wear the colors of the factory Ducati team for the second consecutive season in 2022.

In 2022, the Ducati Lenovo team continued to benefit from the valuable support of its main partner, Lenovo. He worked closely with Ducati Corse's technical staff to consolidate and develop the "Remote Garage" project. It allowed engineers to receive data from the motorcycle in real time and communicate with the garage while working remotely. For the first time since entering the MotoGP starting grid, the Desmosedici GP machines have been painted with the iconic "Ducati red", the same one that distinguishes the bikes produced by the manufacturer Borgo Panigale.

After narrowly missing out on the world title in 2021, Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia became the MotoGP World Champion in 2022 with the Ducati Lenovo Desmosedici GP team and wrote a page in motorcycling history. Bagnaia also became the first Italian rider to win the MotoGP World Championship on an Italian bike.

The Ducati Desmosedici GP22 has a four-stroke, liquid-cooled V4 90°, Desmodromic DOHC, four valves per cylinder, 1000 cc engine. The Desmodromic V4 produces more than 250 horsepower with a top speed of up to 350 km/h. The engine is mated to a Ducati seamless transmission. The fogging system uses indirect electronic injection, the exhaust system uses an Akrapovic exhaust. The Ducati Desmosedici GP22 uses Marchesini magnesium alloy rims The rims are shod with 17-inch Michelin tires at the front and rear. For stopping power, there are Brembo brakes up front with two 340mm carbon discs clamped by four-piston calipers. Additionally, there is a single stainless steel disc brake with a two-piston caliper at the rear. The Ducati Desmosedici GP22 uses a double beam aluminum alloy frame.
