Information about the original

In the mid-1960s, BMW saw demand for a smaller, more affordable two-door version of its four-door New Class executive sedan. Company design director Wilhelm Hofmeister entrusted the project to employees Georg Bertram and Manfred Rennen, who created an attractive and sporty car with a 5 cm shorter wheelbase and 25 cm shorter length, mainly by shortening the rear deck. The resulting 1600-2 model produced in 1966 was less equipped than the new class, but was lighter, faster and better handled.

Directly derived from it, the larger 1968 2002 model should further cement BMW's new reputation as a maker of high-quality, affordable performance cars.

Convertibles, targas, hatchbacks and economy versions of various "02" series models were also produced.

The Bburago Classic range of models

The Bburago Classic range offers detailed pad printing, detailed model interior details (e.g. dashboard). The models are packed in traditional Bburago packaging without a plastic base for collectors.
