Template information:
The Golf Mk1 received the type designation VW Type 17. Production began in March 1974 and sales officially began in May 1974. By this time the Giugiaro's rectangular headlights and wide taillights had given way to round headlights and much narrower taillights. It was a light car with a powerful 1.6 hp engine with mechanical injection and transmission for fast sprints, but the practicality of the original Golf was preserved. The 110 hp engine did not have too much work with the light Golf, its maximum speed was around 180 km/h. In 1979, the Golf GTi received a five-speed gearbox, after another two years it began to appear in the five-door variant, and just before the launch of the next generation, a 1.8 ls engine with a power of 112 hp was also offered.
