In Dixit, you become a storyteller and invent your own stories.
Thanks to the simple rules and principle of playing Dixit, everyone of all ages can enjoy the fun.
The game is also suitable for children, who are helped to develop their imagination.
Each round, a different player takes on the role of narrator. He scores points by having other players guess his card using the hint he gives them. But this hint has to be clever, because if all the players guess the card, the storyteller gets no points! Other players score points by finding the storyteller's card and by getting other players' votes through smart card selection. The game ends when one or more players get 30 points or more. The player with the most points wins.
“When we were children, few things were more fun and common than our wild games of hide and seek. I wish this game would allow us all to discover the child in us again...
How do I use a word or phrase to get my teammates on the right track while maintaining enough ambiguity? The game Dixit, with room for emotions and surprises, has managed to enthuse many of us, from the youngest to the elderly, and take us to the very limits of our imagination. But Dixit mainly brings us closer together. Maybe because the image is essential for us.” Jean-Louis ROUBIRA - Dixit game designer
How to play Dixit:
1. Players take turns in the role of narrator. The storyteller chooses one card from his cards and tells the other players some hint about this card (word, sentence, song...).
2. Then the other players choose from their cards the one that best matches the clue. The Storyteller's card is shuffled together with the cards of the other players, and then all the selected cards are placed face down on the table.
3. Which one belongs to the narrator? The players vote secretly and then the scoring begins. Scored points are recorded on the game board.
Advice for Storytellers:
Hints for other players can be a sentence of as many words as you need. You can make it up or borrow it from a poem, song, movie or proverb. You can also sing it or express it in sound painting or pantomime.
If the hint is too simple (for example, too descriptive) or, conversely, too difficult (too abstract or personal), the storyteller may not get any points for it. He must ensure that at least one player, but not all, guesses his card. It may seem difficult at first, but you will soon find that inspiration will follow!
