The latest version of the M2 3D mini-helicopter shares the mechanics with the M2 V3 PRO, but uses different rotor blades, servos in plastic boxes and a modified control unit, which made it possible to reduce the price of the "Sport" and make the model more accessible to novice pilots.
CCPM gyrus board controlled by electronically mixed servos, flybarless "paddleless" rotor head with a 3G three-axis gyroscopic system (fully adjustable in the mobile application) instead of the usual mechanical stabilizer and gyro stabilizing the helicopter around the vertical axis, powerful brushless motor and electronic speed controller with governor function, intelligent control unit (with built-in ELRS receiver) allowing operation in a tilt stabilization mode suitable for helicopter beginners as well as in 3D mode for wild aerobatics without limits - you can find all this in the M2 V3 Sport mini-helicopter with a 434 mm main rotor!
Let's take a closer look at this latest gem from the OMP Hobby design offices. The basis of the fuselage structure is made up of duralumin engine mounts and a main shaft housing with attached carbon sidewalls and crossbars, a plastic skid landing gear and a tail beam made of profiled duralumin tube with a carbon vertical stabilizer. The frame houses a new, more powerful Sunnysky® R40X-3 AC electric motor with a rotating shroud that drives the main rotor directly, without the usual gears. Likewise, the newly optimized APEX 45 balancing rotor is directly driven by a miniature lightweight Sunnysky® R13X-3 brushless motor. Thanks to this, the entire mechanics are simplified to the maximum, eliminating the problems with rubbing slides, brushed gears or slipping drives.
The robust 4 mm main shaft is mounted in ball bearings. The swashplate is made of duralumin, as is the rotor head with blade carriers. Thanks to the 3G flybarless system and the electronic CCPM, the rotor head with its newly optimized geometry and increased range of cyclic and collective control deflections is very simple. The main rotor blade carriers are a beautiful miniature of the carriers of "big" RC helicopters - with all those ball bearings and damping inserts! The rotor blades are optimized for more stable flight characteristics (which is also contributed by the higher gyroscopic moment of the somewhat heavier blades compared to the "sharp" APEX 190 blades of the M2 V3 PRO). Piloting is therefore much more pleasant and easier for novice and sports pilots - the M2 V3 Sport still reliably handles 3D maneuvers.
The helicopter's electronics consist of an intelligent control unit with a new 3G flybarless OFS3+ control unit with an integrated electronic speed controller with a governor function for the main rotor motor, a regulator for the trim rotor motor and a built-in ELRS receiver; and three 10g digital DS2710 servos (1.65 kg.cm, 0.08 s/60°) with metal gears in plastic boxes controlling the CCPM (120°) mixed swashplate. To control the helicopter, you will need at least a six-channel RC kit with a miniature receiver with an S.BUS port (or DSM2/DSMX and, newly, also with the bidirectional CRSF protocol with telemetry - the TBS Crossfire, Tracer and ExpressLRS systems are supported) or a transmitter with an ELRS transmission system, which you pair with the built-in receiver. The control unit also supports telemetry transmission in the ELRS, SRXL2 and F.Port systems. For ordinary flying, the transmitter does not even have to be computer-based (the control unit provides all the necessary mixes), only 4 channels "on the sticks" and a fifth channel with a two-position switch for switching the control unit modes with stabilization and 3D. Of course, for full-fledged classic and 3D flying, you need a computer transmitter with adjustable 2-3 flight modes with at least five-point collective curves for hovering and aerobatics and another mode for autorotation. Thanks to the extensive control unit settings in the mobile application (including detailed settings of PIDF control loops), most of the settings that previously required an advanced computer RC kit can be made on your mobile in the application (for iOS and Android operating systems). You can, but you don't have to - the control unit is supplied pre-set; its basic parameters can also be fine-tuned using the programming button and indicator LEDs on the control unit, as was the case with older versions of OMPHOBBY control units.
Tip: The mechanics are 100% identical to the M2 V3 PRO (the metal parts differ in silver anodizing instead of black) and you can tune the helicopter to the M2 V3 PRO level at any time - just buy DS2710MG servos in metal boxes designed for extreme 3D aerobatics and "sharp" APEX 190 and 45 blades.
The easily removable sports cabin is made of a very lightweight molded durable plastic - you can choose from two color schemes guaranteeing good visibility and "readability" of the helicopter's position in the air. The helicopter is powered by a three-cell LiPo battery 11.1 V 750 mAh with a 60C capacity (with XT30 connector) stored on the underside of the fuselage. It will provide you with up to 10 minutes of simple flying or up to 4 minutes of aggressive 3D aerobatics.
The helicopter is delivered fully assembled with a preset control unit, so you just need to unpack the helicopter, connect your S.BUS/DSM2/DSMX/CRSF compatible receiver or just pair the built-in ELRS receiver with your transmitter, charge the drive battery, set up your transmitter according to the detailed instructions with illustrative pictures, check all the functions of the helicopter - and you can take off!
The M2 V3 Sport is a full-fledged 3D helicopter with a controlled collective - and as such, it assumes and requires adequate pilot experience. It is not a "drone" that you just add gas to, it takes off and hangs "like nailed" without any intervention in the controls. The M2 V3 Sport will be fully enjoyed by intermediate to advanced pilots who already have experience flying helicopters with a controlled collective ("six-channel"). However, with a sufficient dose of perseverance, humility, prior diligent training on a computer RC simulator, under the supervision of an experienced pilot and using the stabilized mode, even a novice helicopter pilot can start flying the M2 V3 Sport.
The ARF helicopter set includes: 100% assembled and ready-to-fly M2 V3 Sport model, Bluetooth® module, LiPo 11.1 V 750 mAh 60C battery, ELRS/CRSF adapter for receiver, spare servo levers, ball joints and a small set of screws, a sturdy EPP foam box for safe transportation and storage of the model, instructions for operating the model and adjusting the control unit.
