In order to participate in the FIA Group 5 car race, Porsche has developed a series of special vehicles that have been characterized by specialized engines and chassis. At its beginning was the famous 911 Turbo. Several versions of this model were produced, but one of the most famous was the Porsche 935J. The "Baby", as he was often nicknamed, was built for racing in the German National Two-liter Championship (Deutsche Rennwagen Meisterschaft). Among other things, it received a lighter chassis using a three-dimensional frame made of aluminum tubes. Thanks to this solution, the total weight of the car reached 735 kg, so it complied with the competition regulations. As a power unit, it received an air-cooled, 1.425-liter engine with an output of 261 kW. The Porsche 935J achieved an important victory in the 1977 German Grand Prix at the Hockenheim circuit, where the excellent performance of its engine and the efficiency of the design solutions used were clearly demonstrated.
