Original information:
After successful operations during World War I, the Italian "Regia Marina" continued the post-war development of various underwater and surface vessels. For example, the boat Motoscafo da Turismo Modificato (MTM) was designed to allow the most unobtrusive and fastest approach to the target with a low risk of detection by the enemy. When the pilot got close enough to the target, he set the rudder to keep the same direction and guided a small fast boat on the collision course to the target. His post was at the stern, so he could simply jump out of the vessel at a safe distance before the collision. A powerful explosive placed on the bow of such a Barchin exploded on impact. The most successful mission of Regia Marina with the deployment of "Barchina" was the attack led by Luigi Faggioni on the heavy cruiser HMS York of the British Royal Navy in Suda Bay in Crete in 1941.
