The legendary Soviet tank destroyer SU-122 was a response to the German assault cannon StuG.III, which achieved very good results in combat. The armored vehicle has been developed since April 1942, so that two competing prototypes were created. Production of the SU-122 began at the end of 1942. In March 1943, instead of the M-30 howitzer began to assemble U-11 howitzers. The self-propelled gun was given the designation SU-122M. By the summer of 1944, when production ended, 1,148 copies of the SU-122 were produced.
