The Porsche 911 RSR and its predecessors the GT3 RSR, GT3 RS and GT3 R were a series of GT racing cars produced by Porsche used in motorsport for endurance racing. They are based on the currently highest class of GT racing in the world, the ACO's GTE class. These regulations lead back to the concept of a GT3 class lower than the then GT1 and GT2 groups from 1998. After the cancellation of the GT1 class, the GT3 class was planned from 1999 by the ACO as a GT class below the GTS, as well as promoted by the FIA as N-GT from 2000 . Following the unification of the GT rules between the FIA and the ACO in 2005, the class was renamed the GT2 class. When the FIA failed to organize a GT2 European Championship and the GT1 class entrants to the 24 Hours of Le Mans dwindled, the ACO renamed the GT2 class GTE in 2011 and split it into GTE-Pro for professionals and GTE-AM for amateurs. Over the years, Porsche has been continuously represented in this class by various series of 911 cars.

In addition, the Porsche 911 also served as the basis for the higher-class Porsche 911 GT1 and Porsche 911 GT2. Since 2006, Porsche has been represented in the newly created GT3 class with the Porsche 911 GT3 R, which, unlike the factory sport of the GTE class, is focused on customer racing and is based on the one-make Carrera and Supercup cup car.
