The Porsche 911 RSR and its predecessors (GT3 RSR, GT3 RS and GT3 R) are GT class racing cars designed for endurance racing, based on the ACO's GTE class. This class evolved from the original GT3, which was gradually renamed GT2 and from 2011 to GTE, divided into GTE-Pro for professionals and GTE-AM for amateurs. Porsche has long been represented in this class by the 911 model series.

The 911 also served as the basis for the higher classes (GT1 and GT2). Since 2006, Porsche has participated in the GT3 class with the 911 GT3 R, aimed at customer racing. Porsche racing cars are produced at the Motorsport Center in Weissach.
