Ship history
In June 1827, a mutual agreement was signed between Russia, England and France, committing the parties to assist the Greeks in their fight against Turkish oppression. Shortly before, the Russian Baltic Fleet, consisting of ten battleships, including Alexander Newsky, headed for England, and on August 8 they continued their voyage to the Mediterranean.
After an English officer killed in negotiations with the Turks was killed, the Battle of Navarin began. In total, more than fifty enemy ships were destroyed in the battle. The remaining ships were set on fire by the Turks themselves, who did not want to surrender.
