CALDERCRAFT SS Talacre ship model kit from 1917 in 1:48 scale. The model is a typical coastal cargo ship. When building the model, you have a detailed laminate hull into which you can build a drive and RC equipment for sailing on water. You can choose a suitable steam engine or electric drive for the drive. The kit contains many parts that correspond exactly to the details of the real ship. Plywood parts are accurately CNC milled, lots of accessories, building plans are available.
The SS Talacre is a typical coastal freighter as there were hundreds of them used to transport coal to the coast of England. She was built in 1917 by Crabtree & Co, Great Yarmouth. Talacre was named after a small town near the coal mines. She was scrapped in 1959.
With this kit, special attention has been paid to ensure a high degree of fidelity to the original. The details are especially carefully worked out, so you really get the impression that you are letting the steam flow through the reels by turning the handwheel. Laminate hull has all exterior details. The plywood parts are precisely milled on a CNC milling machine and the decks are printed. The kit is completed with material for the chimney, cargo, hatch cover and hardware kit with many cast metal parts including the crew. The building plan with German building instructions makes assembly easy. The hull is designed for a single propeller, for easy installation of the Victor steam engine.
The kit is designed as a static model, but it is ready to install various types of drive and electronics. Drive and tie rod parts must be purchased separately, the choice is up to each builder.
Ship mock-up models for advanced students require previous experience with building models and mastered techniques of individual technological steps, such as gluing, bending, dyeing, sewing sails, etc. It is necessary to familiarize yourself with the drawing documentation, individual steps and plan the entire procedure. Any details must be studied and it must be taken into account that the construction requires a certain degree of creativity and independence, as the instructions do not have to deal with the production of every detail.
The models are extensive and detailed, take a long time to complete and require a lot of finishing work on the parts.

Building model ships requires the right tools. We recommend an excellent set of Modelcraft tools for ship modelers (set of 12 pieces), or Modelcraft tools for modelers (set of 18 pieces). We also recommend the purchase of nylon clamps and indispensable modeling pins. We recommend a modeling mat for editing, precise cutting, gluing parts and also as table protection.
For gluing, we recommend universal dispersion glue and Robitronic instant glue medium 20ml. We recommend acrylic enamel paints for coloring. Apply colors with quality brushes (flat brushes for surfaces, round brushes for details).
For the normal operation of a functional RC model ship, you need a special grease for lubricating the ship's shafts. The special composition ensures the smooth operation of the shaft in the Teflon tube while maintaining the maximum service life of the components.
