Newly upgraded 13.2mm planar unit
The completely self-developed 13.2mm planar unit has launched a new upgrade. Based on the theoretical multiple of acoustics, we improved the performance by approx. 50%. The improved performance will be easier to drive and the sound quality will again increase. The overall performance of the KZ PR1 planar unit used at this stage was excellent among similar products, and the new KZ PR1 Pro 13.2MM planar unit will be far beyond the others after this upgrade.
Note: In acoustic theory, when the sensitivity of a headphone increases by 6 dB, its performance doubles. Compared to the KZ PR1, the sensitivity of the KZ PR1 Pro is increased by more than 3dB at 1kHz, resulting in an overall 50% increase in performance.
-Higher sensitivity brings wider device compatibility and requires less power.
-High sensitivity is not expected to be achieved by simple tuning, which requires very precise component technology and high magnetic flux into the magnetic circuit design.
-At the same input power and volume, the distortion rate of high-sensitivity headphones is much lower than that of low-sensitivity products. It can easily demonstrate high-quality sound at a reasonable listening volume without full load.
What is a true planar unit?
1. In terms of acoustic performance, due to the inherent advantages of the planar unit structure compared to the dynamic unit without excessive split vibration, the high-frequency and ultra-high-frequency performance of the planar unit is much better than that of the dynamic unit. Since the very thin wire generates the vibrations of the balanced armature unit into the diaphragm to produce sound, the balanced armature unit is not designed to withstand high currents and high vibrations. Thus, the low frequency performance of the balanced armature unit could be more satisfactory. But a planar unit can effectively handle very low bass frequencies and high lift because there is no fixed voice coil or fixed connection to the driver. Through the above arguments, the planar unit is beyond the existence of a dynamic and balanced armature in terms of acoustic quality.
2. In terms of product material, the most expensive material for the production of planar units is the membrane, and the thickness of this membrane is only 2-8 microns on average. The main reason this membrane is expensive is that the circuit has to be plated on the membrane by a silver plating process on such a thin membrane and the accuracy of the circuit must be controlled within 2 microns. Therefore, it is easy to have a high scrap rate in the production process. Another is that the magnetic circuit system of the planar unit is very complex. The traditional dynamic unit and the balanced armature unit are generally built in only 1-2 magnets, while the average planar unit is the initial design of 14 magnets. Of course, this number is much larger than that of dynamic and balanced armature units. The benefits are very obvious. It brings powerful resolution and a wide sound field for a planar unit.
3. From the production process, the production of planar units is very complicated, because the number of parts used is much higher than that of dynamic and balanced armature, and the production process is made with strict precision requirements than the previous one. Compared to the production process of dynamic and balanced armatures, planar units have additional processes such as diaphragm forming, secondary diaphragm pressing, magnetic circuit calibration, connection impedance testing, etc. These will make traditional dynamic and balanced armature manufacturers clueless.
The combination of the above three aspects is the main reason that determines the price of a planar unit is much higher than that of dynamic and balanced armature units. However, its excellent acoustic performance is also destined to become the hobby of a few in the high-end Hi-Fi market.
