History of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress
The Boeing B-29 Superfortress is one of the most advanced bombers of World War II and an icon of the US Air Force. Equipped with pressurized cockpits, remotely controlled turrets and a modern fire control system, it represented a breakthrough in aviation technology.
Thanks to its long range and carrying capacity, it became a key element of the US strategy in the Pacific. The first combat missions began in 1944. The aircraft operated from bases in India and China, later from Guam, Saipan and Tinian, carrying out strategic air strikes against targets in Japan.
The most famous operations include the bombing of Tokyo and the atomic bombing missions of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the Enola Gay and Bockscar. After the war, the B-29 remained in service for many years, including the Korean War.
"Monsoon Goon"
"Monsoon Goon" was a Boeing B-29 Superfortress of the 794th Bombardment Squadron, 468th Bombardment Group. In 1944, it was deployed to India, where it participated in long-range bombing operations over Asia.
In late 1944, it returned to the United States, where it was stationed at Pyote Army Airfield, Texas. There, it was decommissioned and scrapped in 1949.
