One of the most distinctive aircraft of the Second World War, the Messerschmitt Bf 110 was a twin-engined heavy fighter designed to be faster and better armed than any other fighter of the era, and during the first months of the Second World War it certainly established itself as a devastatingly effective machine.
Although it suffered in the face of RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain, it continued to demonstrate its qualities as a long-range fighter-bomber and ground support aircraft over large areas of Russia and in the Mediterranean and North Africa, where it served throughout the remainder of World War II.
