During the Second World War, the Boeing B-17 became synonymous with a heavily armed strategic bomber. The Boeing B-17F was also the first Flying Fortress to be produced using mass production processes. The most famous aircraft of this series was the B-17F, which entered the service on July 15, 1942 at the 324th Bomber Squadron in England. His crew called it "Memphis Belle" after their pilot's friend, Lieutenant Robert K. Morgan. He was famous mainly because he was officially awarded the first US Air Force bomber who had successfully completed 25 missions in Europe and became the star of a Hollywood propaganda film. After this mission, the "Memphis Beauty" and her crew have been ordered to return to the United States. Later, it was "purchased" by the city of Memphis, which created a memorial. All of the B-17s together produced a total of 12677 units.
