    The Dornier Do 17z, known as the "flying pencil", was designed as a fast bomber that could theoretically outrun other fighter aircraft. It was used extensively during the Blitzkrieg in the skies over Kent and one Dornier which was shot down in the English Channel is now preserved at RAF Cosford.
