Model information:
Jagdpanzer 38 (t) (Sd.Kfz. 138/2), later known as Hetzer ("puncher"), was a German light tank destroyer from World War II built on a modified chassis of the originally Czechoslovak tank Panzer 38 (t). The project was inspired by the Romanian tank destroyer "Mareşal". The name Hetzer was not commonly used for this vehicle at the time. It was a designation of a related prototype E-10. The Škoda factory confused both names in its documentation for a very short time, so the first unit equipped with this machine used the wrong name for several weeks until the error was clarified.
However, there is a report from Heinz Guderian to Hitler that the soldiers came up with the unofficial name Hetzer. On the basis of this information, post-war historians then popularized the name Hetzer in their works, although this vehicle was never named in this way in official documents.
