    Model information:
Production of the Tiger I began in August 1942 at the Henschel und Sohn factory in Kassel, originally with a volume of 25 machines per month. It reached its peak in April 1944, when 104 tanks fell off the production line every month. Before the Germans definitively stopped its production in August 1944, they managed to produce a total of 1,355 machines. As for the number of tanks deployed, Tiger I peaked on July 1, 1944 with 671 machines. The production of the Tiger I took about twice as long as any other German tank of the time. As soon as production of the improved Tiger II began in January 1944, Tiger I was soon gradually withdrawn. Hitler was eager to use the new powerful weapon in combat, and so he ordered its deployment into sharp service months earlier than originally planned.
A platoon of four Tigers went into action on September 23, 1942 near Leningrad. Because they had to operate here in swampy and wooded terrain, their movement was largely limited to roads and paved roads, making it much easier to defend against them. Many of these first models were bothered by problems with the transmission, which could not handle the heavy weight of the vehicle if the drivers put too much pressure on the saw. It took a long time for them to avoid overloading the engine and transmission, and many machines broke down because of it. The most important event of this mission was when one of the Tigers got stuck in the swampland and the Germans had to leave him. Soviet troops thus received a largely untapped machine, thanks to which they were able to study its construction and prepare appropriate countermeasures for further fighting.
