Original and model information:
The Westland Lynx is a British multi-role helicopter that has served in both Army variants on land bases and Naval variants aboard ships. It entered service in 1977 and has seen many upgrades and improvements since then. The naval variant of the Mk8 entered service with the Royal Navy in the early 1990s and has since been an excellent maritime attack helicopter, performing well in anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue operations and more recently in anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia. Heavily armed with missiles, depth charges or a heavy machine gun, the Lynx is a formidable machine and more than capable of taking on the world's best ships as well as any potential underwater threats.
