The Sovremennyi Destroyer, the main ship of Project 956, was first launched on November 18, 1978. Two GTZA-674 steam turbine engines together put together 100,000 horsepower. This allows this 156-meter-long ship with 7,904 tons of full load load to reach up to 33 knots. Its armament is made up of Moskit anti-missile missiles and a Uragan ground-air missile system. In addition, this destroyer has two double 533 mm torpedo tubes with four SET-65 torpedoes, two 130 mm AK-130/54 two-head 130 mm guns and four AK-630 six-head systems with a 30 mm rotating cannon. There is also an anti-submarine helicopter Ka-27 on board. Sovremennyi served since 1985 in the Mediterranean Sea, later in North-Norway, but in 1998, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union and lack of funds, it was shut down.
