Original information:
The 76 mm L-11 cannon installed on KV tanks proved to be too weak for attacks on machine-gun nests and other fortifications. The new KV-2 tank received 152 mm of the M-10 howitzer as the main tower artillery weapon and was much more efficient in fulfilling its primary task of destroying the defensive military fortifications. KV-2 production started in 1940. However, soon after the start of World War II on Russian territory, its production was gradually stopped, as this single-purpose tank proved to be an overwhelming luxury for the harsh conditions of the initial phases of the war.
