After the Second World War, it was necessary to build a new fleet of transport ships. MS Finnmarken was put into service on the Norwegian coast in 1956. She was the first "new line" ship from Hurtigruten with a stern superstructure. MS Finnmarken emerged as the prototype of a series of Hurtigruten ships that entered service in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Other ships such as the MS Ragnvald Jarl were built to the same blueprints as the Finnmarken. They were sister ships, although sailing for different shipping companies. M/S Finnmarken has been retired since 1993. It is now on display at the museum in Stokmarknes.

The multilingual construction process provides a framework for the logical assembly of individual components.

The kit is designed for use with a drive and RC kit for sailing on water, but also a pleasure as a stand-alone model.

The Norwegian company Modell-tec offers wooden model kits of ships from the Scandinavian region, mainly fishing or transport ships. The kits are intended for moderately experienced and more experienced modelers. It means having some skill and knowledge of leveraging different materials, adhesives, paints and varnishes. The kit mainly contains basic building material, building materials and a number of small or miniature parts and decorations. However, this work will give you an insight into the secrets of ship construction.

Construction difficulty

Ship models for advanced students require previous experience with building models and mastered techniques of individual technological steps, such as gluing, bending, hemming of sails, etc. It is necessary to orientate yourself in the drawing documentation, individual steps and plan the entire procedure. It is necessary to study any details and it is necessary to take into account that the construction requires a certain degree of creativity and independence, because the instructions do not have to deal with the production of every detail.

The models are extensive and detailed, take a long time to complete and require a lot of finishing work on the parts.

Modeling tools and mat

Building model ships requires the right tools. We recommend an excellent set of Modelcraft tools for ship modelers (set of 12 pcs), or Modelcraft tools for modelers (set of 18 pcs). We also recommend the purchase of nylon clamps and indispensable modeling pins. We recommend a modeling mat for editing, precise cutting, gluing parts and also as table protection.

Glue and paint

For gluing, we recommend universal dispersion glue and Robitronic instant glue medium 20ml. We recommend acrylic enamel paints for coloring. Apply colors with quality brushes (flat brushes for surfaces, round brushes for details).

Accessories for normal ship operation

For the normal operation of a functional RC model ship, you need a special grease for lubricating the ship's shafts. The special composition ensures the smooth operation of the shaft in the Teflon tube while maintaining the maximum service life of the components. DYNE4200, DYNE4201 greases are recommended
