Jagdpanzer V (or Panzerjäger V) Panther, Jagdpanther or Sd. Kfz. 173 was a German heavy tank destroyer manufactured during World War II. A total of 415 Jagdpanthers were produced. Although it was a very high quality type, which had effective armament, good mobility and armored protection, the number of only a few hundred pieces could not affect the situation at the front.
The development of a heavy tank destroyer, using a Panther tank chassis and armed with a Pak 43 L / 71 88 mm cannon, was commissioned to Krupp in August 1942. The project was called Sd. Kfz. 173 and the combat name Jagdpanther. At the end of the month, a 1:10 model was completed and a 1: 1 model in November. The prototype fighter was completed in November 1943 and on December 20, 1943 was demonstrated to Hitler. At the beginning of 1944, serial production of the type began, which gave 425 pieces.
Jagdpanther, as already mentioned, was created on the chassis of the Panther tank. A completely closed superstructure with significantly sloping walls was built on the fuselage. It was entered through two circular hatches on the roof or a one-piece door at the back. To his right was a hatch for loading ammunition. The crew consisted of five members: commander, gunner, driver, charger and radio operator. The main weapon was an excellent 88 mm anti-tank cannon PaK 43/3 (or 43/4) L / 71, which was also used in the Tiger II tank. The elevation of the cannon was possible in the range of -8 ° to + 14 °. Measure 11 ° left and right. The anti-infantry weapon was a machine gun MG 34 caliber 7.92 mm (controlled by a radio operator) located next to the cannon; there were also two MP 40 submachine guns in the tank. The crew had 57 pieces of grenades available for the cannon and 600 pieces of ammunition for the machine gun. The armor of the hull ranged from 40 to 60 mm, superstructure 25 (top) to 80 mm (front). The cannon was protected by a 100 mm thick Saukopfblende shield ("pig's head").
Like other German machines, many Jagdpanther fighters were painted with Zimmerit antimagnetic paste during production, which protected the vehicle from magnetic mines. / p>
The machine, weighing more than 45 tons, was powered by a Maybach HL 230 engine with an output of 700 horsepower. He used 280 liters of gasoline per 100 km while driving on the road, but in difficult terrain, consumption climbed to 700 liters of fuel. At the turn of 1944 and 1945, when the German war industry suffered from an acute shortage of fuel, this was probably the biggest shortage of this vehicle, whose tanks held a total of 730 liters of gasoline. On the road, the maximum speed ranged from 45 to 55 km / h and due to the relatively high weight, the Jagdpanther was well mobile even in terrain, where it was able to develop a speed of 25 to 30 km / h.
Excellent mobility, an excellent 88 mm cannon and good passive protection of the Jagdpanther crew made it a feared opponent of either Allied or Soviet tankers. Between 1944 and 1945, when Germany faced thousands of Russian, American or British tanks, but despite the successful design, several hundred of these machines could in no way reverse the situation on the fronts on which it was deployed. Despite all this, it was probably the best vehicle in its category in the entire Second World War.
Jagdpanther was included in the divisions of heavy tank fighters. Most of the machines received Wehrmacht units, but a smaller number also served in the Waffen-SS. The first units armed with Jagdpanthers were the Swiss Panzerjäger Abteilung 559 and 654. The latter deployed several of them against the Western Allies in the fighting in Normandy, but most of the machines produced fought on the Eastern Front. In the west, they took part mainly in the fighting during the offensive in the Ardennes at the end of 1944, where 51 of them were assembled for this purpose.
From the beginning of 1945, they were gradually included in the status of seven tank divisions, in which they were to create at least one company.
True to detail in 1:16 scale
Weighing around six kilograms, the Jagdpanther is ideal for the discerning customer. In the professional edition, it is characterized by excellent airbrush color quality, 2.4 GHz printed circuit board technology and a new speaker. This model has excellent driving characteristics, a wide range of functions and a realistic sound. High quality belts, drive and guide wheels with rollers, as well as the lower part of the fuselage and the turret are made of metal. Many small parts and various stickers perfectly complete the replica of the faithful scale.
Controls and functions
The powerful tank model has 2.4 GHz RC control. The vehicle is equipped with an IR battle system, so battles with vehicles from the same series are possible. Engines with optimized torque give the Jagdpanther a precise and smooth ride. Metal gears with robust gears and improved transmission ensure greater performance. Thanks to the proportional control, you can approach the tank very slowly and gradually increase your speed. The Jagdpanther moves forwards and backwards, also with left and right turns. It can also be turned left or right on the spot. You can raise and lower the cannon. The realistic experience is completed by various engine sounds, barrel recoil, barrel flash and exhaust smoke.
