Vanguard Models HM Trial Cutter 1790 non-floating model kit of the historic sailing ship, 1:64 scale. Trial was built by Thomas Dusterville of Plymouth, she was 65 feet long and 21 feet wide and had a displacement of 123 tons. She had a crew of 45 men. Armament had 8x 3-pounder gun mounts and 4x 12-pounder carronades.
The history of the ship is rather adventurous, on June 28, 1793 Trial captured pirates from St. Marle, the 14-gun yacht "Le Feret". In 1797 Trial captured the pirate brig "Le Courier de la Mer". In 1798, while guarding the invasion fleet at Le Havre along with a frigate and a bomb ship, her ability to sail close to shore was demonstrated in a brief engagement with the 36 gun frigate "La Confiance" and the 20 gun corvette "La Vesuve". The frigate "La Confiance" was abandoned and later burned, the corvette was driven ashore but escaped when she drove off the British squadron under her own power. The Trial was decommissioned in 1810 and continued to be used only as a warehouse in Waterford. In the 1840s she was still used as a coal depot in Callao, Peru and was finally sold in 1848 - a very long service life for such a ship.
