    Characteristics

Kit of a non-floating model of the well-known sailboat Mantua Model Pinta in a scale of 1:50 and a length of 540 mm. Together with the ship Nina and Santa Maria, it formed the fleet of Christopher Columbus, with which he discovered the new world in 1492. The kit includes wooden parts, metal casting decorations and detailed building plans.

    KR-800755_b01.jpg

Columbus was convinced that he had found a sea route to India. With the discovery of a previously unknown continent, the extremely cruel conquest of America by the Spanish began in the 16th century. The kit includes all wooden parts that are laser cut to millimeter precision, a colorful flag and sail, rare wooden slats, poles and an extensive hardware kit. With the help of all the necessary mock-up accessories, you can create a beautiful model.

The third ship of Columbus's expedition, the Pinta, was a square-sail caravel. The sails consisted of a square foresail and a large mainsail, while the foremast supported a long yard for a triangular aftersail. Unlike her sister ship Nina, she also had a bowsail. Pinta was the fastest of the three ships, confirming the logbooks which indicated that this caravel was often ahead of the other two ships during the voyage.

The Mantua kit includes plywood hull construction, building plans with general details in English, battens, wooden masts and spars, brass and walnut hardware, etched brass details, rig lines and a silk flag. All sheet metal parts are precisely laser cut.

What you will find in the package

After opening the lid of the box, you will find wooden parts of the plywood model, a set of moldings, small parts sealed in bags, a set of drawings and a manual.

    KR-800755_a03.jpg
    Set of drawings

The set contains a complete set of drawing documentation of the model in a 1:1 scale with images of individual details. The drawing shows to scale the assembly assemblies, their completion, including masts and booms and the method of tying the rigging. The multilingual construction process provides a framework for the logical assembly of individual components.

    Construction difficulty

Ship models for advanced students require previous experience with building models and mastered techniques of individual technological steps, such as gluing, bending, hemming of sails, etc. It is necessary to orientate yourself in the drawing documentation, individual steps and plan the entire procedure. It is necessary to study any details and it is necessary to take into account that the construction requires a certain degree of creativity and independence, because the instructions do not have to deal with the production of every detail.

The models are extensive and detailed, take a long time to complete and require a lot of finishing work on the parts.
