Characteristics
Kit of the non-floating model of the ship Mantua Model Mayflower in 1:64 scale from 1609. The ship Mayflower served the English Puritans, known as pilgrims (Pilgrims) from Plymouth, England, on their way to the new world in 1620. The package includes materials for construction, laser cut parts, various fittings, wiring, plans, etc.
The Mayflower was originally a cargo ship that was primarily used to transport wine from France to England. However, in September 1620, 102 passengers and 31 crew aboard the Mayflower left England to establish a new settlement in America.
On September 6, 1620, the Mayflower set sail from Plymouth. Instead of the desired destination of Virginia, they reached Cape Cod, where the settlers landed on November 11 near today's Provincetown. The voyage of the Mayflower is the most significant example of European settlement in the Americas and is often mistakenly cited as the beginning of settlement. In fact, the colonization of North America began with the settlement of Newfoundland as early as the mid-16th century. However, the Mayflower laid one of the cornerstones for the founding of the United States and remains an iconic ship and an important part of American history.
A completely newly designed kit from the Italian manufacturer Mantua, it combines a large amount of detail with a high level of prefabrication thanks to the most modern production methods. A 96-page construction manual with lots of pictures and drawings guides the modeler safely through the individual construction steps until the finished model is completed.
The wooden parts are precisely laser cut to allow precise assembly. Individual planks are already engraved as an imitation on the surface of all decks. This creates a realistic impression of the decks, as if the deck is lined with individual belt sections. The side panels are engraved with many details. The accessories included in the set include a range of mock-up details, rigging, a lifeboat, barrels and anchors and much more. Even wood stain and pins are included.
The sails are offered by the manufacturer as optional sail accessories (KR-834200), they are not included in the kit, they can be purchased.
Construction difficulty 3
Ship mock-up models for advanced students require previous experience with building models and mastered techniques of individual technological steps, such as gluing, bending, dyeing, sewing sails, etc. It is necessary to familiarize yourself with the drawing documentation, individual steps and plan the entire procedure. It is necessary to study any details and it is necessary to take into account that the construction requires a certain degree of creativity and independence, because the instructions do not have to deal with the production of every detail.
The models are extensive and detailed, take a long time to complete and require a lot of finishing work on the parts.
We recommend to buy
For construction, we recommend buying tools, glue and paints.
Modeling tools and mat
Building model ships requires the right tools. We recommend an excellent set of Modelcraft tools for ship modelers (set of 12 pieces), or Modelcraft tools for modelers (set of 18 pieces). We also recommend the purchase of nylon clamps and indispensable modeling pins. We recommend a modeling mat for editing, precise cutting, gluing parts and also as table protection.
Glue and paint
For gluing, we recommend universal dispersion glue and Robitronic instant glue medium 20ml. We recommend acrylic enamel paints for coloring. Apply colors with quality brushes (flat brushes for surfaces, round brushes for details).
