In 1625 the Swedish king Gustav Adolf II. to produce VASU as the flagship of its Baltic fleet. Under the guidance of the Dutch shipbuilder, 400 craftsmen participated in work at the Royal Shipyard in Stockholm. The hull made of oak wood with two cannon decks was completed at the beginning of 1928. With more than 700 opulent carved and gilded sculptures and other decorations, VASA has become a truly impressive vessel. With its length of 69 and 72 guns, this warship, named after the ruling royal dynasty, was one of the greatest in its time. For the King urgently needed her during the war against the Poles, she tugged on the 10th August 1628 solemnly sails and set out for her first voyage from the port of Stockholm. But after the gust of wind, she took water through the open cannon, and in a few short moments she sank right in front of her crowd. 328 years later, VASA was re-discovered at the harbor in Stockholm, and in 1961 it was lifted from the bottom. Extensive search for parts of the ship, their reconstruction and conservation continue to this day. Since 1990, this unique and almost complete boat has been exhibited in its own museum in Stockholm.
