    Information about the template:

The Harley-Davidson Sportster is a line of motorcycles produced continuously since 1957 by Harley-Davidson. Sportster models are identified by starting with "XL" in the Harley-Davidson product code. For the 2008 model year, Harley-Davidson launched the XR1200 Sportster in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The XR1200 had an Evolution engine tuned for 91 hp (68 kW), four-piston and two-piston front disc brakes and an aluminum swingarm. Motorcyclist featured the XR1200 on the cover of its July 2008 issue, which featured a "First Ride" article that was generally positive about it. In the article, Harley-Davidson was repeatedly asked to sell it in the United States as well. One possible reason for the delayed availability in the United States was the fact that Harley-Davidson had to acquire the rights to the "XR1200" name from Storz Performance. The XR1200 was launched in the United States in 2009 in a special color scheme including Mirage Orange highlighting its dirt track heritage. The first 2009 750 XR1200 models were pre-ordered and featured a number 1 plate for the front of the bike. They were delivered signed by Kenny Coolbeth and Scott Parker with a thank you/welcome letter from the company, signed by Bill Davidson. The XR1200 was discontinued in the 2013 model year.

Aside from the 1980s street XR1000s and XR1200s, most Street-built Sportsters have the XL prefix in their model designations. There are two engine sizes for the Sportster Evolution engines used since the mid-1980s. Motorcycles with the smaller engine are designated XL883, while motorcycles with the larger engine were originally designated XL1100. When the size of the larger engine was increased from 1100cc to 1200cc, the badging was changed accordingly from XL1100 to XL1200. Subsequent letters in the designation refer to model variants within the Sportster range, eg XL883C denotes the 883cc Sportster Custom, while XL1200S denotes the now discontinued 1200 Sportster Sport.
