This 2007-only special edition is the 1098 S "Tricolore" (red, white and green, the colors of the Italian national flag). Ducati's "Tricolore" tradition began in 1985 with the stunning 750 F1 and then continued with the limited edition 851.

The Ducati 1098 is a sports motorcycle that Ducati produced between 2007 and 2009 in three versions: 1098, 1098S and 1098R. The 1098 was replaced by the 1198 in 2009, although the 1098R remained in production that year.
The 1098 shares more design elements with the older 998 than with its 999 predecessor, such as horizontally positioned headlights and a non-integrated exhaust system. Another carryover from the 916/998 is the single-sided swingarm. The 1098 was designed by Ducati designer Giandrea Fabbro.
