The Challenger 1 had a significant impact on British military history as the main battle tank from 1983 to 2001. It received its baptism of fire in the 1991 Gulf War, where it distinguished itself with exceptional marksmanship. Continuous modernization, especially the additional armor of the Mk. 3 version, made it one of the best protected tanks of its time. A massive 1,200 horsepower engine gave the 62-ton colossus a remarkable speed of 56 km/h.
