Original and model information:

Although the de Havilland Vampire has historically been overshadowed by the Gloster Meteor, and because of it carries the label of 'only the second' jet fighter to enter service with the British Royal Air Force, it is a hugely significant aircraft in its own right.
The Vampire was the first RAF aircraft to reach speeds in excess of 800 km/h and was also the first single-engine jet to cross the Atlantic Ocean, making it one of the world's most significant early jet aircraft.
The FB.5 fighter-bomber was then the most important variant of this aircraft – 1123 units were produced, of which 930 served in the Royal Air Force, aircraft intended for service overseas were then designated FB.9 and had air-conditioned cabins.
