The F-4 Phantom II, developed by US designer McDonnell Douglas, is a two-seat supersonic fighter bomber in all weathers. He entered the service during the 1960s and is still considered one of the most famous aircraft in the history of military aviation. The original project originated specifically for the needs of the US Navy, but eventually it was used by all the US components and achieved considerable commercial success in other countries around the world. The original version designed for the Navy underwent the first upgrade in 1966, when the Phantom F-4J was launched to deliver new systems to improve its combat capabilities in aerial combat and ground targets. Avionics has also undergone a distinct change, and the aircraft has also been given an innovative "look-down / shoot-down" fire control system (the ability to attack from a height to targets against the background of the ground). Thanks to a pair of improved powerful DC engines, General Electric J-79-10 has made the new Phantom achieve a maximum speed of 1240 knots. Speed, thrust and reliability were the main strengths of the Phantom II, which were able to compensate for its worse maneuverability due to the large size of the aircraft.
