The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is one of the most famous fighter aircraft in the history of aviation, and one of the longest-running machines: it began to be written in the late 1950s, and in the case of some air forces it ended in the middle of the first decade after 2000. Its unique slim body dragon and the very small wing of this aircraft made it an ideal capture fighter. Thanks to the thrust of his General Electric J79-GE-11A turbocharged engine with additional combustion he managed to exceed the Mach 2.2 speed and had excellent climbing. For that reason, he was not very well manoeuvrable and difficult to pilot. The F-104G Starfighter version was licensed by several European aviation engineers. Since the mid-1960s, it has become the standard capture aircraft of many NATO states, including Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece and Turkey. Her equipment did not differ from previous versions. The main weapon was the 20mm Vulcan cannon and under the wings it was also possible to hang air-to-air missiles, bombs and additional fuel tanks to increase the range of the aircraft. Over time, this machine has been used for reconnaissance missions in addition to capture tasks. For this reason, it was equipped with a dedicated exploration system "Orpheus" located in the outer gondola, which brought excellent operational results.
