The SAAB 37 Viggen is an aircraft that was ahead of its time. The unorthodox solutions chosen by its designers not only enabled Viggen to meet the requirements placed on it, but to surpass them in some parameters. The Swedish Air Force ordered the Viggen in several versions, with the basic design of the aircraft forming a universal platform which, supplemented with special equipment, allowed it to be used in several roles. Propulsion was provided by a Volvo RM8 engine, a licensed civilian Pratt & Whitney JT8D engine, complete with afterburner and thrust reversers. This, as well as the double delta wing concept, contributed to the Viggen's excellent take-off and landing characteristics on small airfields. For better handling of aircraft after landing, placement in hangars or better camouflage during operations from non-standard surfaces, the Viggen received a folding vertical tail surface. The electronic equipment was one of the best in the world at the time. The Viggen was the first machine with a built-in integrated circuit computer. The AJ 37 Viggen version was the first to be included in the armament of the Swedish Air Force, which was gradually followed by the SK 37 version - a two-seat training fighter aircraft, the SF 37 - a reconnaissance version with photographic devices in a modified bow, the SH-37 - an anti-ship version with different electronic equipment and anti-ship armament . About ten years after the introduction of the first version, the second generation of the Viggen, the fighter version JA 37, was produced.
The first version adopted into service was the AJ-37 Viggen battle fighter version. This version was later upgraded to the AJS-37 Viggen version. One of these upgraded aircraft was given a red anniversary livery and was decorated with "Show Must Go On" signs and ghost drawings. This very attractive color version is offered by our model.
