The Messerschmitt Bf 109E was the best fighter in the world in 1939. Therefore, many European countries showed interest in its purchase. Thanks to the oil mined in Ploiesti, Romania was one of the first to afford it. Slovakia, as one of Germany's satellites, on the other hand, received Bf 109E among the last. Both nations then deployed their Bf 109Es on the Eastern Front alongside the Luftwaffe. In the battles, both some Romanian and Slovak pilots became aces.
