The light and inexpensive J-3 Cub aircraft were behind the development of civil aviation in the USA in the late 1930s. With the end of the world crisis, interest in aviation increased and the J-3 was ideal for basic training and tourist flying. With World War II approaching, the J-3 came into the sights of soldiers. The USAAF decided to test the J-3 in the role of an artillery fire control and close reconnaissance aircraft. The J-3 was a success and began to be produced for the armed forces in a militarized version of the L-4 Grasshopper.
The model includes two gray plastic frames, a frame of clear parts and decals for three machines. The yellow pre-war civilian J-3 is complemented by two military machines. One of them, originally a civilian machine, flew in an olive livery, through which the original yellow livery showed through. The other carries the full military livery of olive drab and neutral grey.
