L-4 Grasshopper 'From Africa to Central Europe' 1/48
The American Air Force discovered, similarly to the British RAF, that the relatively large and complicated aircraft (O-47 or the RAF Lysander) designed before the war were unsuitable for close reconnaissance and control of artillery fire in combat conditions. Light aircraft, taking off and landing 'on a fiver', have proven themselves much better. In this category, the L-4 Grasshopper is probably the most famous. It was developed from the civilian version of the J-3 Cub, tested in pre-war US Army exercises. The first of our covers illustrates the combat journey of the Grasshoppers from Operation Torch, the landings in Africa, through the landings in Italy, in Normandy, to the American field airfields in western Bohemia, Czechoslovakia, where the Grasshoppers ended their combat service in World War II.
Two frames of plastic parts complement the frame of clear parts, etchings and decals for four machines.
- for more than 50 years, there has not been a new quality L-4 Grasshopper model
- interesting camouflages
- etchings are part of the kit
- separately sold masks, resin wheels and other accessories are being prepared for the model
