Original information:
By the time the United States actively entered World War II, American infantry were well armed and trained. It was equipped with the most modern weapons of the time, but lacked experience of the Great War. The first active ground operations in Europe began in November 1941 in North Africa with "Operation Torch" and ended with the defeat of the Germans in 1945. A total of over 16 million Americans served their country in World War II.
