German engineers were real alumni. They were able to eliminate enemy barriers and overcome natural obstacles. In the attacks on enemy fortified positions, the road engineers cleaned the way through barbed wire barriers and minefields. Often they also had to take the role of strike units and lay mines under defending enemy soldiers, or defeat the enemy with flame throwers. In defensive conditions, these soldiers formed defensive military elements such as trenches, wire barriers, or minefields.
