Information about the original:

After the Normandy landings in June 1944, the Allies planned to invade German territory to end the war as quickly as possible. Conceived by Bernard Montgomery, Operation "Market Garden" consisted of bypassing the German defenses using British, American and Polish airborne units. The paratroopers were tasked with taking control of the bridges in the Netherlands between Eindhoven and Arnhem and thus securing access routes to Germany for the Allied forces. However, strong German resistance and the failure of the Allies to cross the Rhine threatened the operation, leading to its failure. The war dragged on and required several more months of fighting before the Allies entered Germany. Hartenstein served as a focus of activity during Operation Market Garden and was used as the headquarters of the British 1st Airborne Division.
