The second generation G-Class (W463) was unveiled on January 14, 2018 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Compared to its predecessor, the new G-Class grew by 121 millimeters in width and 53 millimeters in length. Ground clearance increased by 6 millimeters. The main change was the steering system, which was switched from a ball-recirculating system to a variable-ratio rack and pinion system with adaptive electric power steering. The new steering system enables safety and comfort features such as Active Lane Keeping Assist, Pre-Safe collision avoidance systems and self-parking capability.
G-Classes are powered by a 382-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The G-Class has all-wheel drive with three differential locks.
