    The car was introduced in April 1964. At the beginning of 1965, it was modified and so the first models are referred to as the 1965 model. The 1965 Fastback model had engines with a capacity of 4.7 l or 289 cui. Originally, 100,000 Mustangs were expected to be produced in the first year, but the total eventually reached one million. After the 1965 model, the 1967 model was created, where Ford began to use far more technology from already existing models to reduce both production costs. The second generation was launched two months before the oil crisis, when the new law on air protection and emissions was passed.
