Porsche unveiled RSR racing variant 918 in 2011 at the North American International Motor Show in North America, which combines hybrid technology. 918 Spyder was the second plug-in hybrid car from Porsche, after 2014 Panamera S E-Hybrid.

The 918 Spyder is powered by a 4.6 L naturally aspirated V8 engine built on the same architecture as the one used in the RS Spyder Le Mans Prototype without any engine belt. The overall engine system delivers 652 kW of power.
