Information about the original:
In 1976, the FIA introduced a new Group 5 reserved for "special" production cars in motor racing. The new rules established a similar body width to that of regular production cars, but it was possible to apply larger fenders in order to make use of the wider wheel track and larger tires. BMW competed in Group 5 with a special version of its new flagship E21 "320". A new aerodynamic profile was created, which also incorporated large fenders, and it was also equipped with a powerful 300 horsepower engine. The car was successfully raced by the official BMW team and also served as a development platform for young, novice drivers.
