Single-action pistols work on the principle of a fixer. The paint is sucked in by the vacuum of fast-flowing air behind the nozzle, where it is mixed with air and transferred to the painted surface.
Single-action pistols are characterized by simple construction and easy operation, which is an advantage, because it can work with children and inexperienced people. Because the paint is fed only to the nozzle, cleaning and replacing it with another paint is quick. The pistol has no regulation, so it can be used on larger areas.
The double-action pistol has separate air and paint dosing. Pressing the trigger adds air, pulling backwards opens the nozzle, pulling the needle backwards, adding a lot of paint.
The double-action pistol has a more complex construction, usually a metal casting with a number of parts. Fillings with paint are usually bottom, side and top, and the shape and construction of the pistol correspond to this. It tends to be in the shape of a pencil for comfortable holding, thanks to which the spray stream can be precisely dosed and directed. The nozzle size can be changed from about 0.2 to 0.5 mm.
